यद्वद्रत्ननिधिर्दरिद्रभवनाभ्यन्तर्गतः स्यान्नरं

न ब्रूयादहमस्मि रत्ननिधिरित्येवं न विद्यान्नरः ।

तद्वद्धर्मनिधिर्मनोगृहगतः सत्त्वा दरिद्रोपमास्

तेषां तत्प्रतिलम्भकारणमृषिर्लोके समुत्पद्यते ॥ १ । ११४ ॥

yadvad ratnanidhir daridrabhavanābhyantargataḥ syān naraṃ

na brūyād aham asmi ratnanidhir ity evaṃ na vidyān naraḥ |

tadvad dharmanidhir manogṛhagataḥ sattvā daridropamās

teṣāṃ tatpratilambhakāraṇam ṛṣir loke samutpadyate || 1.114 ||

Just like there may exist a treasure of jewels within the house of a poor man,

And it may not speak out to that man "Here I am, a jewel-treasure" - and thus the man may not know,

Similarly, the treasure of the Dharma is placed within the house of the mind, and sentient beings are like the poor man;

So that they may obtain that treasure, the Seer arises in the world.
